19-02-28 Thursday Fort Lauderdale to Palm Beach

We woke up to another fabulous day -- and left Lake Sylvia, navigating around cruise ships and huge sailboats. 

 As the weather was just like yesterday, we went on the "outside" again, and traveled in the Atlantic ocean up to Palm Beach.  Another beautiful and successful day!

Back on Zingara, we experienced an unforgettable evening-cruise down-river to the GM building for a live concert, with FABULOUS new friends!  Laura & Josh Hevron, Rick, Steve & Kate Long Kim & Cap'n Rick Always smiling, Jessie Hornberger Arriving at the GM Building Unfortunately, while dropping the anchor, I injured two fingers, and that cut the evening short.  I can’t even begin to thank the levelheaded, calm friends that surrounded me that night! Wednesday, June 14th -- wow! it's been over a month ago???

We left Cross Lake @ 6:45 am, went  through Locks 25-29, and finally docking in Palmyra @ ~ 2:30 pm >> 50+ Miles  Palmyra is the home of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Mormon Church. At a nearby hill, in the early 1820s, Smith was prompted by an angel to dig up golden plates on which the Book of Mormon was written.  I guess every July, tens of thousands (over eight days) of spectators come to this tiny town for the Church’s annual celebration, and hillside performance, in Smith’s honor. In June 2017, I found Palmyra very sad –  Though they did have a great little Chinese restaurant. You know the food will be good when you can see the “chefs” chopping the fresh vegetables, and when the only person that speaks English is the 10-year-old boy taking orders by the cash register.  –  Besides the few restaurants, the shops in Palmyra were either used-bookstores or antique/flea-market shops. Wake up!  It's Game Day!  Our little caravan set off to travel down the IntraCoastal Waterway (ICW) following the Alligator River.  We l eft the docks at 6:45, and caught the 7:00 Swing Bridge. We're the little blue dot, @ 7:10 AM. We were all looking forward to a long day, full of easy travel, bright sunshine and college football, hoping to reach Oriental in 8-1/2 hours (4:30ish) ;  Sally and Shawn listened to the MSU vs OSU game, starting at noon (Shawn showed us how to listen to the game on Iheartradio.com) and Rick cheered on UofM against the Rutgers at 3:30   Meanwhile, Mary had found a great restaurant in Oriental that promised to be showing the Clemson/Boston College Game---- as Bill is a huge Clemson Fan. We made it to Oriental (almost 90 miles) by 5, and got to enjoy the sunset at the Oriental Marina and Inn. We enjoyed a fair meal at the Toucan Restaurant, but mainly just relaxed and enjoyed each others' company...
