 NOTE on 11/18/2108:  Dear family & friends,  all is well,  except that the Internet in the  
       marinas down here are either non-existent or very slow.  I couldn't upload pictures to the blog.
Over the holidays,  I'll learn how to use a hotspot, and will sign up for unlimited data for January through March.


 Off the dock by 6:45 AM --- What a Spectacular morning!  Here's a picture of "Always 5 O'Clock" (I kept calling it "Happy Hour", but will start using her correct name), looking backwards from Zingara.


Now just hoping we get through the day without hitting anything. Rick and Mary continue to watch the charts, both paper & electronic for un-marked shoals due to Hurricane Florence.

Beautiful,  yet damaged, homes along the Intracoastal.



For extra safety, for a while, we followed other boats, including the trawler, Wander's Rest from Fairfax. VA, a larger, deeper boat.
Notice, the pole with the red triangle on it --- that is a marker indicating the right edge of the channel.   The water could be 2-3 feet on the other side of that mark.

We docked for the night in Wrightsville Beach.  Rick had contacted friends that live nearby -- Jim Harris (his brother, Greg Harris belongs to our Michigan sailing club on Cass Lake)  and Andrew & Sandy Barton, who bought Rick's Lightning (racing sailboat) a couple of years ago.
They joined us for Happy Hour on Zingara, then we went out for dinner on land. (Of course, I forgot to take a picture -  blah!)

Back on Zingara, we experienced an unforgettable evening-cruise down-river to the GM building for a live concert, with FABULOUS new friends!  Laura & Josh Hevron, Rick, Steve & Kate Long Kim & Cap'n Rick Always smiling, Jessie Hornberger Arriving at the GM Building Unfortunately, while dropping the anchor, I injured two fingers, and that cut the evening short.  I can’t even begin to thank the levelheaded, calm friends that surrounded me that night! They made what-could-have-been a disaster, into an organized, effective training for what to do in case of an accident. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! As the hand-surgery healed,    we hosted an Open Hour on Zingara, for our Pontiac Yacht Club friends! May 25th

Wed, May 25th: 6:50 am We left the quiet harbor of Chesapeake City,  and traveled east/northeast in the C&D (Chesapeake/Delaware) canal.  The day started off easy, and I felt so silly at my pride in my accomplishments --- I remembered my gloves when I went out to hoist up the anchor, I pressed the correct button (UP not DOWN) on the electric windless, and I even sprayed off the mud with a small hose BEFORE getting the chain onto the boat!  Then I went inside the cabin, started the generator, let it warm up, switched on the master switch, turned on the galley AC outlets, and THEN > ta-da ->> made coffee!  Ha!!! Simple pleasures for simple minds!   My major job while we were motoring, was to keep an eye behind the boat, to warn Rick is a big SHIP was there; it would run us over! We luckily made to the Delaware River without any mishap, and turned south-east.  There, we saw many huge ships, one named the British Century. ...

Sept 15 A Day of LOWS, HIGHS & CROWDS

We left Lagoon City and maneuvered the tricky entrance into the Trent River system.  Two smaller power boats followed us into the narrow, shallow (LOW water-depth - but fabulous scenery!) channel, edged with rocks, wild flowers, farmland, and woods.  Notice the "blue line" - it's the staging area before/after each lock, yet most also have gorgeous landscaping ! By 11:00 o’clock, we arrived at Lock #41 @ Gamebrigde.  Looking through the binoculars, nothing was happening/moving within the lock, although we could see 3 boats already staged inside.  Oh no – what’s wrong? Is something else broken?  It ended up that they were waiting for us. And the two boats behind us, too! For the next 4 hrs. and 5 more locks, Notice how you can see two previous lock in the canal behind us the 6 of us were packed like sardines into the locks.
