Monday, September 11, --- the Niagara Escarpment

 Happy Birthday, Mom!

.... and the date that will always be sobering throughout our  US history.

After a trip to the grocery store, we left Tobermory, traveling east, southeast around the Bruce Peninsula.  After viewing our charts, wind & weather apps., we decided to  head towards the protected area of MacGregor’s Harbor to anchor for the evening.

This was the first time, since my accident, that I was dropping the anchor.  But I did it!  With just a slight hesitation, complete concentration, and with my new rule>> hands on the railing before foot on the (electric-motor) winch button.
It ended up being a fine place, although we had to use our Danford anchor, not the usual Bruce anchor, due to the weeds.  But, fortunately, we got settled in for the evening, and ...
WOW ... what an awesome view of the Niagara Escarpment!
The Niagara Escarpment is  – "a series of lakeside bluffs that run for 400 miles, from northeast Wisconsin through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, then eastward across Manitoulin Island in Lake Huron, and down to the southeast through Ontario's Bruce Peninsula.  The escarpment then runs inland, forming a distant row of hills for 200 more miles before strutting its stuff most dramatically at Niagara Falls -- from whence it got its name - where the water of the Niagara River cascades over the edge." [Cruising World article, Dec 2007]   …..
Here's the part of the escarpment that we got to see ....that evening,

and then, again the next morning!

It was also fun to snap a photo of both the sunset,
and the sunrise, without leaving the anchorage!

The landscape, the water, the views are spectacular up here!  If you ever have the chance, take a holiday over here!   It's so worth it!
