How can a summarize the last two months?
We arrived at Jefferson Beach Marina on a warm Thursday, June 22nd, afternoon, and quickly learned that we can’t walk to Mike’s Restaurant without walking all the way out to Jefferson and back!
That first weekend, I visited family in Okemos and Twin Lake, MI. 


We celebrated the fabulous Lake Orion Fireworks display on July 1st, with the Hurkmans at New Amsterdam, 



 And then, Patrick & Kelly and Alex came to Zingara to continue the holiday.  



My father’s 90th birthday party, on July 9th, was a huge success  
and we continued to party together, at a rental cottage overlooking Lake Michigan.

Back on Zingara, we experienced an unforgettable evening-cruise down-river to the GM building for a live concert, with FABULOUS new friends!  Laura & Josh Hevron, Rick, Steve & Kate Long Kim & Cap'n Rick Always smiling, Jessie Hornberger Arriving at the GM Building Unfortunately, while dropping the anchor, I injured two fingers, and that cut the evening short.  I can’t even begin to thank the levelheaded, calm friends that surrounded me that night! They made what-could-have-been a disaster, into an organized, effective training for what to do in case of an accident. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Wednesday, June 14th -- wow! it's been over a month ago???

We left Cross Lake @ 6:45 am, went  through Locks 25-29, and finally docking in Palmyra @ ~ 2:30 pm >> 50+ Miles  Palmyra is the home of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Mormon Church. At a nearby hill, in the early 1820s, Smith was prompted by an angel to dig up golden plates on which the Book of Mormon was written.  I guess every July, tens of thousands (over eight days) of spectators come to this tiny town for the Church’s annual celebration, and hillside performance, in Smith’s honor. In June 2017, I found Palmyra very sad –  Though they did have a great little Chinese restaurant. You know the food will be good when you can see the “chefs” chopping the fresh vegetables, and when the only person that speaks English is the 10-year-old boy taking orders by the cash register.  –  Besides the few restaurants, the shops in Palmyra were either used-bookstores or antique/flea-market shops. Friday, June 16th Lift Bridges

Note:  for those of you who don't know -- since we arrived in the Detroit Jefferson Beach Marina, internet has been VERY iffy, my family and I celebrated my Dad's 90th Birthday (week long celebrations), I had my 40th High School Class Reunion, and then I broke my two fingers in an anchor-chain accident --- <<< yes, these are my excuses for not being current on my Blog. We left Brockport, NY at 7:10 am, Locks # 34 & 35 after noon, then arrived in North Tonawanda @ 3:25 ~ 52  miles Not many locks today  --- Just bridges! We’re learning that there are numerous bridges that go over the Erie Canal, and TODAY there are 30 of them that we’re going to have to slow down for!  We have to slow down due to the low clearances.  Back on Long Island, we took down the “mast” that holds the radar, etc. and we folded down the bimini (shade canvass and bars) in Brewerston on Monday.
