The Eric Canal June 12 & 13th

The Erie Canal

After 31 years (almost 32) of marriage --- Today, I heard Rick growl it, right out loud   “Patience is not in my vocabulary.”  I knew that all along, but I’m glad he finally admitted it!

OVERVIEW: Below is another picture of the same map of the Erie Canal that I posted before, but I'm hoping that you'll be able to read this one better.  We traveled (right right to left) from Troy (near Albany) and would finish up in Tonawanda, near Buffalo, NY.

Maybe you can read this one a little better ...

Monday, June 12th, We left Ilion at 6:55 am, we went through locks 19 – 22 (Locks #21 & #22 were our first DOWN locks); then went across Lake Oneida to Brewerston.
Heading into Lake Oneida

Tuesday, June 13th, We left Brewerston around 8:00 am, went through locks 23 --34.

What do you think about these cool “Road signs”?
Along the way, we had a wonderful lunch with Cousin Jim and Beth in Baldwinsville,
Beth took this picture of us -- Jim had to run back to work.
and then continued on until we anchored out in Cross Lake at around 3:30 >> 37+ Miles

There are so many wonderful things about “anchoring out”.  Although we don’t have electricity (can’t use the coffee maker, stove, etc.) Zingara has a whole system that works off of batteries. We can enjoy the basics >> ceiling lights, water pump, and refrigerator/freezer << wherever we “drop the hook”.  And it’s so QUIET and peaceful.

(And, oh yeah, it’s also free. Did I ever tell you that, when we “dock”, we, usually, have to pay so much $$ per foot. We had a few places along the Erie Canal where they charged a flat fee, or just charged $15 for electricity/water.  As Zingara is a 46 ft Grand Banks, the common cost is $46- $92 per night.  At Liberty Landing, NYC, the going rate was $4.50/foot; Sag Harbor was even more! – you do the math)

Here in Cross Lake, we anchored in a forest-lined cove, which protected us from an incoming rainstorm, with just a few little cottages dotting the shore.  We got out the Backgammon board and then went to bed early.
